The sound quality of the amplifier directly depends on the quality of the power supply. Of course, there are limits imposed by the rest of the parts, but in general, quite high requirements are placed on amplifier power supplies. In conditions of limited space inside the housing, the requirements for temperature resistance / stability of the parts used also increase. In a number of high-quality class A and AB amplifiers, the quality of the power supply is directly reflected in the quality of the work of these amplifiers, the level of distortion and noise in general. Improving the quality of power supplies is achieved by using stabilizers, CRC, CLC and other filters to smooth out the ripple of the supply voltage. This type of filter (CRC) allows you to get the output voltage ripple 5-10 times smaller than when using a C-filter with an identical total capacitance of the capacitors.
The power supply is designed for connection to two secondary windings of a transformer with a mid-point connection and a maximum AC voltage of AC70V-0-70V
Bridge diodes 4 original ultra-fast diode assemblies for 20A "D92-02" for welding inverters in the TO247 case, the PSU outputs are shunted with high-quality film, polypropylene capacitors. The 50W CRC filter resistors and rectifier diodes are mounted on heatsinks, which increases reliability and allows the use of these power supplies with a constant load in relatively closed cases. The power supply uses NEW capacitors K50-18, 100V - 10000uF, removed from storage. Before assembling the module, these capacitors are molded at operating voltages and are completely ready for operation. The average capacitance of the K50-18 capacitors is 12000uF, hence the total capacitance of the PSU capacitors is increased by 8000uF as a bonus.
It is not recommended to use the power supply at a voltage higher than AC70V-0-70V, as voltage surges in the power supply network can damage the electrolytic capacitors.
Optimum alternating voltage AC 65V-0-65V
It is MANDATORY recommended to connect via a soft start system, because when the power supply is turned on, the capacitors are discharged and at the initial (short-term) moment, the charging current of the capacitors is almost equal to the short-circuit current.
An additional advantage of using a CRC filter is to increase the safety of the electronic device as a whole, since the weakest point of the power supply is precisely the filter resistor, which burns out in the event of a short circuit at the output of the power supply, and thus acts as a fuse.
The module is designed to work like a regular C filter with filter resistors removed and minimal modifications. In some amplifiers, the effect of applying a CRC filter is so obvious that measurements of a similar amplifier with this power supply in C and CRC filter versions will be given.
