A simple and very good-sounding DAC on the top-end (almost 20 years) chip of the line from the American company Cirrus Logic - CS4398 (24Bit / 192kHz). There is a CS8416 receiver, a CM101 USB transport, and a CS4398 DAC on the board.
Frequency support: 32000 to 192000 Hz / 24 bit.
By USB, the frequency is 44.1 and 48K Hz.
The DAC can work via the SPDIF input thanks to the receiver with a low jitter CS8416 with frequencies 32K-192K.
The CS4398 DAC itself is interesting in that it is a full-fledged 192K / 24-bit stereo DAC, has a de-phase detection system, has several built-in digital filters and is itself a multi-bit delta sigma.
This DAC is used not only in low-cost products, for example, in the ASUS Xonar D1 sound card, but also in almost the entire range of medium to high level Marantz LED players. CS4398 is installed in Marantz CD 6004, Marantz CD Pearl KI players and even professional sound interfaces E-MU 1212m / E-MU1616m.
To power the device requires a transformer with the following voltages on the secondary windings:
9V x 1A
15-0-15V x 1A
The module is built on the following chips:
- CS4398 DAC;
- CS8416 transport / converter;
- CM101 USB receiver;
- NE5532 operational amplifier at the output, which makes sense to replace with a better one.
Subjectively, this DAC is superior to the Asus XONAR U7 sound card built on the same DAC.
The board comes in two versions:
1. The board with soldered chips (SMD) is the rest, the output components are soldered independently.
2. Fully assembled and tested board.
If necessary, it is possible to equip a transformer to power this device.
